Offender Patrick Anthony Faiers Sentenced to Three Years Probation

Allen County | Information has been received that Patrick Anthony Faiers, 49, of Fort Wayne, has been sentenced to three years probation for the line of duty death of Fort Wayne Officer David Alexander Tinsley on September 11, 2018.

Tinsley observed a driver, later identified as Faiers, who was driving a stolen vehicle from New Haven and refused to stop. After striking a tree, he fled on foot and was pursued by officers before being apprehended. Tinsley collapsed while returning to his squad car and later died at a local hospital.

Faiers was subsequently charged and held in the Allen County Jail. On January 11, he pleaded guilty after entering a plea agreement and on February 5, Allen Superior Judge Frances C. Gull sentenced Faiers to three years probation as follows:

  • Burglary, a Class 5 felony, four years with two years suspended;
  • Operating a motor vehicle after forfeiture of license for life, a Class 5 felony, four years with two years suspended; and
  • Resisting law enforcement, a Class 6 felony, two years with one year suspended

Both Class 5 felonies are to be served concurrently while the Class 6 felony is to be served consecutively with a 147-day credit for time incarcerated since arrest. His probation will be supervised by the Allen County Community Corrections.

As part of the plea agreement, the charges of auto theft (Class 6 felony), criminal mischief (Class A misdemeanor) and criminal trespass (Class A misdemeanor) were dismissed.
