K-9 Kilo was shot and killed during a shootout with an armed man in Pendleton.

The subject had been involved in an argument with his estranged wife when he obtained an AK-47 assault rifle and opened fire on other residents in the 400 block of Water Street. Responding units engaged the man in a shootout in which a bystander was killed and two officers were wounded. K-9 Kilo was also shot and killed during the shootout.

The 59-year-old male subject escaped but was found dead after a six-hour manhunt suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

K-9 Kilo, a Belgian Malinois, had served with the Anderson Police Department for two years.
