   K-9 Magnum was euthanized after being shot in the face two days earlier while tracking a bank robbery suspect.

   The subject had fled into a bean field in the area of 8th Street and Dale Keith Jones Road where K-9 Magnum was released into the field to find him. K-9 Magnum was shot in the face and suffered a critical injury that he could not recover from.

   The 22-year-old male offender was charged and subsequently convicted of armed robbery, pointing a firearm, striking a law enforcement animal, resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness.

   He was sentenced to 12 years in prison, later released and discharged from six years probation in 2022.

   K-9 Magnum, a 3-year-old male Belgian Malinois, was the second Anderson Police Department canine to be killed in the line of duty in a three-week period.
